About WhileStudy

WhileStudy is a free, browser-based study app for flashcards and question-and-answer (QA) cards. It is designed for "studying while doing something else": it offers an always-on-top popup window, automatic paging, automatic audio playback, and automatic text-to-speech.

Key features

Study on your PC while doing other tasks, using an always-on-top popup (Picture-in-Picture).
Your study lists stay on your device. No account is required and data is never uploaded.
Cards can include not only text, but also images and audio.
Keep studying offline with the data you loaded most recently. (Paid version only)

Study formats

For a question list you have imported, you can study in the following formats.

Flashcard: the question, answer, and explanation are shown together. Good for memorization.
QA card: after the question is shown, the correct answer and explanation are displayed. Good for checking understanding.

How to create a study list

Prepare a list as a CSV file. The first line is the header (question, choices, answer, explanation, image, audio) and each following line is one card. To use images or audio, import a ZIP that bundles the CSV with the media files. You can download sample files inside the app to get started quickly.

Privacy and advertising

WhileStudy stores your data locally in your browser and does not require an account. The Service may show advertisements (including Google AdSense); non-personalized ads are requested for all users. For details, see our Privacy Policy.
